Art at the Main is an independent art gallery located within the Salt Lake City Main Library. Catering to the patrons of the library, it is often mistaken, says director Kristine Groll, for a facet of the library. It distinguishes itself with strong monthly shows, always featured during the Gallery Stroll, such as the current annual Holidays with heART.
This eclectic and lighthearted group show features painting, sculpture and unframed drawings and minor works with a holiday focus from 19 local artists. Groll—whose own work is pictured—says that the gallery aims to support local emerging artists and provide a vehicle to promote their work.
The artists represented in the show are in no way sub-par, nor is their art. It is an entertaining and lively exhibit with a variety of subject matter and painterly approaches. A visit to the gallery is a highlight of a visit to the library, itself offering a variety of entertainment—all free—for families and individuals for the holiday season. (Ehren Clark)
