Holiday Open House and Gingerbread Auction
Friday, Dec. 11
What’s held together by gingerbread, gum drops, hardened frosting and love? A fine, candied domicile up for auction at the Canyon Creek Assisted Living Center’s annual gingerbread auction, that’s what! Join the charity event and enjoy cider, champagne and hot chocolate while bidding on gingerbread houses. All proceeds will help the Utah chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Give Plasma, Build a Community
Saturday, Dec. 12
To support the arts, some would give their blood, sweat and tears. Sweat and tears really can’t be used for much, but the Mestizo Institute of Culture and Arts (MICA) could use your blood—part of it, at least. Donors at the Biomat plasma center can give the cash equivalent of their plasma donations to support Mestizo’s mission of constructing a great west-side art center.

Hildegard’s Pantry Fundraiser
Saturday, Dec. 12
Like other food banks, Hildegard’s Pantry has been struggling to provide food to needy families in this rough economy, this year averaging about 300 families daily. So tonight, help by attending a screening of the independent animated film Sita Sings the Blues, a modern retelling of an epic Hindu poem. The ticket price is only $5, with other donations of food and toiletries suggested but not required.
