It’s December, which means it’s official—the redistricting process has come down to the city level, and that means you need to comment on Salt Lake City’s plans to redraw maps for school-board and city-council districts. For more festive municipal action, you can drop in to the Salt Lake City Historic Landmark Commission meeting and hear about plans to revise citywide guidelines for historic designations. This weekend, you can also check out a holiday pet-adoption drive put on by No More Homeless Pets.

Salt Lake City Redistricting Hearing
Thursday, Dec. 1

Now that the Legislature has inked its final maps for political districts defining congressional and state legislative districts, it’s time for cities to begin crafting maps that will ensure Salt Lakers have fair representation on the school boards as well as in the council seats. Come out and give your input to a special citizen-drawn working group and make sure your voice isn’t left off the map. Salt Lake City & County Building, Room 326, 451 S. State, Dec. 1, 5:30-7:30 p.m., for more information e-mail council.comments@slcgov.com

City guidelines for building and development are always a balancing act between the old and the new, history and growth. If you’re a historic-’hood rat, then be sure you see how changes are being made to citywide guidelines for residential and commercial developments that affect historic properties and landmark sites.
