A good cause and beer: two things that make a slideshow more interesting. That’s why we can safely say Save Our Canyons is presenting a great slideshow at Brewvies this weekend. Follow that with trail maintenance for National Trails Day and signing up to volunteer at the upcoming Utah Arts Festival, and you got yourself a good, socially active start to your summer.

Save Our Canyons Benefit
Thursday, June 4

Salt Lake City nature photographer Howie Garber will show slides of natural wonders ranging from the mountains of Patagonia to the Monarch butterflyfilled forests of Mexico and back to Utah’s own rugged peaks and canyons. Seating is limited, and the event will run you $6 with proceeds going to the Save Our Canyons nonprofit. Brewvies Cinema Pub, 677 S. 200 West, June 4, 7:30 p.m., 801-363-7283, contact dave@saveourcanyons.org

National Trails Day
Saturday, June 6

So, how are you celebrating National Trails Day? Here’s hoping it’s not another Saturday spent inside sniffing glue and watching Walker, Texas Ranger reruns. How about actually hitting the trails? There are options for getting out into the great outdoors to enjoy fresh air while doing maintenance on those beloved public areas. You could also ring in the 10th anniversary of the Bonneville Shoreline trail by helping repair erosion damage in the Morris Meadows section in City Creek Canyon. Or take a jaunt to Green Canyon in Logan and help build a single-track trail and a habitat restoration fence. City Creek Canyon, June 6, 8 a.m., BonnevilleShorelineTrail.org; 801-483-6860, Green Canyon, Logan, 1900 N. 2300 East, June 6, 8:30 a.m., 435-797-0964, katestep@cc.usu.edu

Utah Arts Festival—Call for Volunteers
June 25-28
If you’re looking to get active and artsy, then consider signing up to help with the upcoming Utah Arts Festival. Salt Lake City’s arts megacultural extravaganza will need plenty of helping hands to help set up and take down the event, as well as volunteers during the festival to help with kids’ face painting and to staff info booths. Find more information at the Website: http://www.uaf.org/volunteer
