Tis the season to help those in need, your community and your world by getting involved. This coming month, you can assist the International Rescue Committee during its 2013 Light One Candle Donation Drive to give some holiday cheer to locally settled refugee families. The new year is also around the corner, so why not see about getting involved with the community do- gooders of Peaceful Uprising by attending their monthly general meeting? Later, drop by the Salt Lake City Council for a discussion of the awarding of community development block grants.

What better way to celebrate the reason for the season than by “adopting” a refugee family through the International Rescue Committee’s annual donation drive? The IRC will match you with a refugee family, for whom you can buy new or gently used gifts from their wish list, making their new home a little nicer this holiday.

Salt Lake City Council
Tuesday, Dec. 3
The Salt Lake City Council will host public comment on Community Development Grant Funding. These funds are used to help support housing and vital services for low-income and disadvantaged city residents. The hearing will also discuss disbursement of Emergency Grant Solutions requests, so show up and stand up for the service providers who help the city’s most vulnerable.
