The holiday season: In like a tsunami, out like a tsunami. But sometimes, at least, it’s a warm pleasant wave frothing with good vibes and good cheer. But always on steroids, unless you’re new to town and have only one friend … someone on MySpace named Tom.

nn

So take heart, because this here guide will keep you afloat. Even if you don’t have the means or desire to give all the gifts we suggest, you can read about them and imagine you did and think you had a very merry Christmas and a happy Hanukah, too.

nn

Got an imbiber in your life you wish to make happy? Ted Scheffler reveals which bottle of bubbly would have him or her doing back flips. Want to send a personal message by giving a book? John Dicker taps into titles for your quirky homeys. Ryan Bradford embraces the sweet life and counts down his candy crushes.

nn

And then there’s the staff-generated gift catalog. You can find out a lot about people by what they want, or claim to want. People who barely register a pulse often surprise you with a startling list of objects and activities. Others find it distasteful to claim they want anything. They trust their psychic friends to just know what to buy them this holiday season. To get the conversation rolling, City Weekly staffers let slip dozens of gifts they themselves want. Only time will tell if Santa reads City Weekly.

nn

For those who rebuff shopping malls and the shiny happy people who inhabit them, Jerre Wroble took a walk on the west side and had an affair with swap meets. Finally, Bill Frost talked to our ever-friendly MySpace Friends, and they spilled the beans on their hopes for the holidays.

nn

So go ahead and be jolly. It’s only for a month … or is it six weeks? … or three months, if you count when Smith’s puts in that aisle of Christmas decorations. Or all the time … if you consider that giving gifts is just a nice thing to do, any time of year.
