In this month’s show at Art Access, two painters examine the process of aging—in nature, objects and people. “Oftenm the beauty, wisdom and elegance of aging are overlooked, especially in our culture,” notes Anne Morgan Jespersen. She has represented subjects in her works that have become more beautiful with age—for example, a dandelion gone to seed. Wendy Chidester was drawn to depict objects and places that evoke a previous time, like a vintage hand-crank ice-cream maker.

Chidester utilizes several processes in the application of paint, including the old masters technique of glazing until additional depth and the perception of aging has occurred. For both painters, the show is an attempt to challenge societal views of aging.

This show is paired with Women of Their Time: Paintings by Cori Redstone in the Art Access II Gallery.
