One piece of Americana that ranks right up there with apple pie and baseball is quilting. To honor the tradition, the Kimball Art Center presents a traveling exhibit of two separate Coloradobased quilting groups—The Piecemakers and Quilt Explorations—that make it a point to contemporize their handiwork by taking a modern look at Western icons.
While an irreverent nature might be there in many a square with quilt titles such as “Cow Pie,” “Amarillo Armadillo” and “Da Fence Rests,” these artisans also pay a fitting tribute to the solid history of quilting in our society with every belabored last stitch.
Two quilting workshops will also be held in conjunction with the exhibit—Beyond Crazy: Contemporary Crazy Quilt Techniques as Background on June 18, and Exploring the Surface: An Integrated Approach will take place the following two days on June 19 and 20.
