Just because you're a parent, doesn't mean your sense of style has to go out the window. If you or a friend are looking for a diaper bag that's sleek, unique and useful, check out Fawn Design, a locally owned and operated company.

"We have a very unique product when it comes to the diaper bag/anytime bag world," co-owner Cole Wecker says. The Fawn Design bag is an original creation in the shape of a half circle. This shape allows you to open the bag and see everything that you might have in there. "We also made the entire outside and inside faux leather so you can clean it very easily," Wecker, a father of one, says. "Our bags can be worn as a backpack or a messenger bag, but you have the option to remove the messenger strap if you just want to use it as a backpack."

Wecker and his wife Jenny started Fawn Design in 2014. Cole was pursuing a degree in entrepreneurship and had to start and run a business for one of his classes. Jenny had the idea for a unique diaper bag and had been sewing since she was 5-years-old. Since then, both have transitioned to running Fawn Design full-time.

"I love being able to be my own boss," Cole says. "I love creating my own schedule."

Jenny agrees. When she and Cole began Fawn, she had been working as a pediatric dental assistant and was feeling burned out. She was unsure of what she wanted to do with her future, so when the opportunity came to start a company, she jumped in with both feet. It took her a month to nail down the exact design and pattern for the bag. "Our bags are really stylish—most diaper bags are far from that," Jenny says.

For the first year of the business, she sewed every order, but soon demand increased beyond what she and Cole could produce. So, they started a Kickstarter to fund the initial costs of finding a manufacturer, and raised $42,000 in just 15 days. The local support of Fawn has overwhelmed the Weckers.

Now the couple rarely goes anywhere without seeing someone with one of their bags. "That never gets old," Jenny says. She is so happy they took that leap two years ago and credits Cole for encouraging her to do something she loved.

"You really can do whatever you really want to in life," she says. "You just have to do it. We never thought our business would turn into what it is today, but we know that a lot of hard work has taken us to that place. We can't wait to see where we are in another two years."
