Dew Tour Toyota Challenge

This weekend, downtown Salt Lake City will be home to BMX riders sailing through the air, skateboarders soaring, motocross riders defying gravity—and one “Flying Tomato.”
Two-time Olympic gold medalist and advertising gold mine Shaun White (pictured)—who actually isn’t all that wild about being called “The Flying Tomato” anymore—will be in town along with 150 other athletes as part of the Dew Tour. After winning medals in halfpipe snowboarding in the Winter Olympics, White is coming off winning the skate vert competition at the most recent Dew Tour stop. It’s as if Sidney Crosby and Kobe Bryant were the same person.
Besides White, other extreme sports fan favorites scheduled to compete include Ryan Sheckler (skate park), Dave Mirra (BMX park), Brett Banasiewicz (BMX dirt) and Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg (freestyle motocross). In addition to pros, 70 amateur skateboarders and BMX riders will also be competing as part of the Gatorade Free Flow Tour.
Many of the events are scheduled to take place in EnergySolutions Arena, but the area surrounding the block becomes part of the festivities, as motocross riders fly through the air with Temple Square and downtown’s skyscrapers as their background. In addition to the competition, the gates will open early every day so that visitors can check out Toyota’s “Adrenaland”—which, as the name suggests, is designed to provide “adrenaline boosting” activities to help people release their “inner freak” through sitting in the “Eye Boogie Corolla” or trying to get a high score on the “Ollie Meter.”
