Stand-up comedy has undergone a renaissance in the last decade or so. What was once the province of unhip Borscht Belt old farts is now not just the territory of cutups on either coast, but also up-and-coming 20-somethings in middle America and everywhere in between. In some respects, the stand-up comic is the new rock star.
In the case of local comic Cody Eden, that’s true in several senses, as he also plays in local bands Loiter Cognition and the Dirtbikes. A triple threat on drums, guitar and the comedy mike, he has become one of the local favorite comedians on the Salt Lake scene; in addition to headlining gigs, he’s opened for several national acts.
And music can provide fodder for humor, too:
“Everything that ever involved Primus is 75 percent less awesome in reality as it is in your head,” he recently quipped on Facebook.
