This year’s Collage entitled “Crossings”, will showcase the compellingly emotional, “Passion & Resurrection” by contemporary Latvian composer, Ēriks Ešenvalds. The work, composed for strings, choir and soloists, is described as “…a powerful meditation on the story of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection. Eschewing the single narrative perspective that characterizes the great Passion settings of the past, the composer has assembled an interlocking mosaic of texts from the gospels, from Byzantine and Roman liturgies and from the Old Testament.” The American Record Guide suggests that, “Choral fans on the prowl for today’s very finest composers are strongly urged to make Esenvald’s acquaintance” and attests that “…the end result is music of rich emotion, haunting gentleness, staggering power, and startling beauty.”
