The Utah Justice Party is now official and certified for ballot access. We are looking to field candidates for federal, state and local elections in 2012.
On the federal level: vice-president, U.S. Senate (Hatch’s seat) and U.S. Congress (Matheson’s seat).
Statewide offices open for 2012 include governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, state treasurer and state auditor.
Local-level offices include all school-board districts, all seats in the Utah House and the following seats in the Utah Senate (by district): 1, 6, 7, 8, 10, 13, 14, 16, 19, 20, 23, 24, 25, 27, 28 and 29.
Interested candidates should contact the Justice Party of Utah co-chair, Ty Markham, no later than March 10, as the filing deadline is March 15.
The Justice Party announced its formation Dec. 12, 2011, in Washington, D.C., as an alternative to the two major parties it sees as a “duopoly,” corrupted by the influence of corporate and special-interest money. Justice Party candidates pledge to reject corporate money, lobbies and all special-interest influence in order to truly represent the public interest. The goals of the party are to achieve economic justice, social and civic justice, and environmental justice for all citizens. It pledges to apply the rule of law evenly at every level of society and government and to safeguard individual liberties guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.
Rocky Anderson, former two-term mayor of Salt Lake City, longtime environmentalist and public-interest advocate, has been selected by the Justice Party as its candidate for president of the United States. He reflects the party’s platform in speaking out against the corrupting influence of money in government, against the erosion of rights guaranteed by the Constitution and against the draining of our nation’s resources to support illegal wars of aggression.
