Motor City Mexican
Park City restaurateur Bill White’s empire (Grappa, Chimayo, Wahso, Windy Ridge, Ghidotti’s, Sushi Blue) is about to get a little bigger. At the end of the month, he’ll unveil his newest Park City eatery, this one in Pinebrook’s Quarry Village (8208 Gorgoza Pines Road), and I think it’s going to blow people’s minds. I got a private sneak preview of Billy Blanco’s (get it?), which will feature food and drink that White calls “Motor City Mexican.”

The concept is to serve a combination of Mexican cuisine and American comfort food (like burgers) in a space that is an ode to America’s—and especially Detroit’s—auto and motorcycle industries. It’ll have a garage feel, of sorts, with cars and bikes on display, such as an amazingly tricked-out Harley-Davidson motorcycle, a couple of Ducati race bikes, a Shelby Mustang and a Dodge Challenger. The bar is made from steel tool boxes—the type you’d find in the pits at the Indy 500—and a local artist was given carte blanche to “tag” the walls with graffiti, but also create portraits, such as the giant Kid Rock on the wall next to the entrance. White even purchased an old saw mill in Kamas just to reclaim the hundreds of metal chains, gears, pulleys and such that will become part of the restaurant’s décor. Billy Blanco’s is scheduled to open to the public June 29. Stay tuned here for further reports, or visit Facebook.com/PCBillyBlancos.

Taco Time
Restaurateur Mikel Trapp (Trio and Fresco) opens a new restaurant June 17, this one with south-of-the-border flavors created, when possible, with local organic ingredients. It’s called Luna Blanca Taqueria and will feature tacos (al pastor, shrimp, fish, carnitas, mushroom, chicken, etc.), quesadillas, burritos, ensaladas, housemade sodas, chaparritas and a good selection of tequilas, beer and specialty Mason-jar cocktails. Luna Blanca is located in Holladay at 3158 E. 6200 South, just off of Interstate 215. Be sure to order the charred corn with chipotle butter and queso fresco. For additional information, call 808-944-5862 or visit LunaBlancaTaco.com.
