Oscar-themed Cocktails
The 85th Academy Awards is on the mind of Bambara’s (202 S. Main, 801-363-5454) bartenders, as The Vault bar will feature Oscar-themed libations through Feb. 24, the date of the 2013 Academy Awards. Customers are invited to vote for their favorites. “Our Oscar-themed cocktails this year were really a pleasure to create because there is a lot of creative inspiration from the subject matter and tone of the nominated films,” says my favorite Bambara bartender, Austin Craig. “I was able to incorporate a local Utah whiskey that relates to the old Wild West into the drink for Django Unchained, which I thought matched up really well with the movie’s setting.” There are nine new cocktails—one for each Best Picture nominee—including Life of Pi (10 Cane Rum; grenadine; and cranberry, orange and pineapple juice, with a Myer’s Rum float) and Lincoln (Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Canton ginger liqueur and a dash of bitters). Visit for more information.

New Boulangerie
Fans (like me) of Eva restaurant in downtown SLC will be thrilled to know that owner/chef Charlie Perry and his crew have opened Eva’s Bakery (801-355-3942), a French-style boulangerie located at 155 S. Main (formerly Vasuvio’s). With its bold blue exterior and lemon-yellow canopy, Eva’s Bakery looks like a little piece of Paris. The bakery is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and sells items such as fresh-baked baguettes and other breads baked with organic flours, pastries, croissants, cookies, éclairs, sandwiches, pizzas, soups, open-faced croque monsieurs, quiche, Danishes and much more. Visit for more information.

More Pago to Love
Pago (878 S. 900 East, 801-532-0777) restaurant has solid appeal with Salt Lake City food lovers, as evidenced by consistently loyal crowds. Well, now there’s even more Pago to love, as the cozy 9th & 9th eatery expands its service to seven days a week (now open Mondays). In addition, there’s a new, talented, young sommelier on staff named Evan Lewandowski, and new menu selections from Executive Chef Phelix Gardner such as the killer kale Caesar salad and Morgan Valley Lamb sugo with handmade mint pappardelle. Visit for more information.
