We reap what we sow in both gardening and activism. So try out rainwater harvesting classes for Water Week, dig into some social justice with Salt Lake City’s May Day festivities, or harvest a little karma by taking part in an awareness walk for finding a cure for Lupus:

Thursday, April 30 Rainwater Harvesting
When it comes to natural resources, it’s worth considering getting more out of a rainstorm than just a cheap carwash. That’s why the Salt Lake City Public Library’s Go Green Series is offering a unique, free workshop about the tips, rules and regulations on harvesting rainwater. Day-Riverside Library, 1575 W. 1000 North, April 30, 6 p.m., 801-594-8632

Saturday, May 2 May Day! May Day! May Day!
That this international workers’ holiday would be celebrated with a pun on a distress signal is both clever and sad. Sad, if you consider the challenges Utah’s working class has to face these days. Luckily, the Utah Jobs with Justice folks are hosting a great event to look at labor solutions to our current economic challenges. The event is free and promises not only great speakers and ideas, but some good family fun with facepainting, balloons and other activities. Pioneer Park, 400 W. 300 South, May 2, 1-6 p.m., contact Linda@utahjwj.org, UtahJWJ.org

Saturday, May 2 Zero in 50—Walk for Lupus now This year, the Lupus Foundation observed a sad milestone. Fifty years have gone by with no new drugs developed for the treatment of the debilitating autoimmune disease. The Utah Chapter of the Lupus Foundation wants to raise awareness of the illness that already afflicts at least 1.5 million Americans. Come learn more or volunteer to help with the event. The Utah chapter is looking for help leading up to and including the event day. Plus the Lupus Foundation has volunteer opportunities going on every week. Liberty Park, 1100 S. 600 East, May 2, Day-of registration at 9 a.m. Walk at 11 a.m., Firstgiving.com/utahlupus
