I never understood why the phrase “Go fly a kite!” is considered disparaging—especially after watching amazing professional kite flyers such as those featured at this year’s Antelope Island Balloon & Kite
Stampede. The kites reach over 90 ft. in length, with multiple lines
controlling them. Kite-flying at this level is truly an art form, and
the Davis County Chamber of Commerce, the event’s sponsor, has invited
four professional kite flyers to be featured at this year’s event,
along with many expert hobbyists. There will be workshops and classes
for all levels of kiting, kites to purchase, and an area exclusively
for flying your own kites. There will even be live music throughout
much of the festival.
Of course there is also the ballooning.
Floating above the island and the Great Salt Lake will be up to 50
spectacular hot air balloons. There will be tethered balloon rides
available for your experience as well. As with any ballooning or
kiting, this is all weather permitting. So go fly a kite.
