Everything is digital now, yet there remains an affection for the analog. Having not been reduced to ones and zeros, the analog experience reflects a broader, richer sensory spectrum. Works at Sam Weller’s will include a performance-art piece by Michael Handley and Brandon Garcia, sonic housings by international sound artist Mathieu Ruhlman, two-dimensional works by Joey Behrens and Trent Call, interactive sound installations by Trent Alvey and Henry Jones’ “Tales on Tape.” The staff at Sam Weller’s has used ingenious means to display art in the unlikely venue of a bookstore in past exhibits, including hanging works from the ceiling and creating artworks out of books themselves. But this will be perhaps the biggest challenge to its presentation skills yet, especially since bookstores, like libraries, are assumed to be sanctuaries of silence. Yet on Gallery Stroll evenings, this has become one of the places getting the biggest buzz.
