Not every reality-competition show contestant gets a second chance at victory. Comedian Alonzo Bodden took advantage of his.

In summer of 2004, Bodden barely missed out on winning the second season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. But when the third season became a showdown between finalists from the first two seasons, Bodden topped even the guy who had bested him the first time around, John Heffron, to take the “all-stars” title. By Season 5, he was one of the judges.

But he’s not just sitting and evaluating other comedians; he’s still standing, taking his comedy on the road. Bodden describes his comedy as “cynically good-natured, in an angry, suburban Negro kind of way.” That includes griping at suggestions by former FEMA head Michael Brown that the BP oil spill is “Obama’s Katrina”: “A disaster caused by a private company is the same as one caused by nature[?] … You see, Brownie, when we say ‘natural disaster,’ it means nature caused it. The head of FEMA should know that; sixth graders do.”
