Re: “Not-So-Public Records

It has taken many years for this important issue to finally appear before the public. The location for the proposed nature center, that has now become the RAC, was previously the North Jordan River State Park. Parks sold it to SLC (for a dollar!) through what many think was a back room deal. Utah State Parks decided to liquidate that nature area and also the Minersville State Park because the Utah State Legislature had failed to adequately fund Parks year after year. The longtime Salt Lake County Fish & Game Association (not affiliated with any government agencies) had spent thousands of its non-profit dollars to help promote that nature center, and had hoped for it to become a central "hub" to all other nature-related facilities in the state.

Utahans should be truly offended by SLC's "arbitrary" choice of the ill conceived site for the RAC without any supporting analysis. As a result, the RAC ultimately cost way more than any other potential sites due to the added need to fill over 100 acres with about 2 1/2 feet of fill materials to literally fill in what had been a combined Jordan River and Great Salt Lake flood plain that was almost entirely under water in the late 1980's. That additional expenditure cost taxpayers millions of unnecessary, additional dollars, all at the expense of nature and nature lovers! Really??

As one of only two people who have volunteered their labor for years to help compensate Mr. Nadesan (our attorney) and his family, to support his largely pro bono representation. I for one, hope that our state's supreme court not only makes the right decision for all Utahans, but also provides the three of us with "damages" so the likes of myself might someday be compensated for all of my out of doors labor.

I truly appreciate all of Mr. Salt's longtime efforts, and Mr. Howze's writing such a well constructed article. Other previous articles that attempted to address this RAC issue were not well researched nor well written. Thanks guys!
