Re: “Disney Remakes: When You're Woke Upon a Star

What about a remake of Sleping Beauty with a twist to make it a metaphor for date rape? HAHAHAHAHA! Just kidding. That one is just TOO wacky.

Re: “Crisis of Con-fidence

Yes, it is as plain as day. Clearly, Mr. Brandenburg either did not consider the fact that so many panelists who have chosen to "sit this one out" and are hoping to see change (and therefore would be drawn to supporting Bryan Young) are writers and as such can spot his literary fingerprints from a mile away (I have my own, such as a lot of paranthetical statements and occassionally mixing metaphors), or he thinks very little of our intelligence.

Re: “Crisis of Con-fidence

As someone who read participated in long "disccussions" about Orson Scott Card that included Brandenburg banning at least one person from participating purely because he couldn't keep up with her debating skills (notice it was a her. We've seen a pattern of this with Bryan B), the above article is more than fair. Bryan Young's words above: "The push for more inclusivity threatened to be undermined by an invitation to Orson Scott Card." The invitationexisted. It was not only discussed, but Brandenburg bullied and railed against anyone who was against it. Eventually, due to overwhelming sentiment against it, the invitation was not extended, but again, the proposed invitation posed a threat. Nothing in the above article is untrue.

What is untrue is that the con will not be hurt by losing Bryan Young. As a former panelist myself, I can tell you that we were frequently being told that the strong consensus from people attending the con was the they wanted more panels that featured people who actually worked on specific fandoms. The one and only area where FanX was developing huge success (which kept growing) was in STAR WARS panels, with authors and high level members of the Lucasfilm story group such as Pablo Hidalgo. Pablo told me himself it was easy for him to make it down here and he saw himself as a reular. Do you see his name anywhere on the website? This was because of the work of Bryan Young. Last night, Matt Martin of the Lucasfilm stroygroup tweeted as much as he had enjoyed the con in the past, he will not be attending. Author E.K. Johnson is also not attending, and those are only three names.

To the serious STAR WARS fan, the con was becoming a must attend event, thanks to Bryan Young. We've lost that because of the actions (and inaction) of men who, if they had Captained the TITANIC, would likely have said "Iceburg ahead? I'll bet if speed up we can smashed staright through that sucker", and it's a very big deal.

The Force will be with you, Bryan Young. Always. It's sad that The Dark Side has such a deep hold on FanX.
