Yes, Ted and I were regulars at that lower-than-low-brow-all-you-can-eat Mexican food place throughout college. It was defensive eating, we rationalized one $1.89 stuffing session would substitute for a couple days worth of meals.
On my last summer's trip to Salt Lake City, Ted and I are still eating from endless plates of Mexican food but this time I'm being hosted by Ted, the premier food writer of Salt Lake City. No more defensive eating. Now there are incredible dishes and restaurants with the deep pleasures and subtle nuances that come from the many sophistications learned in a lifetime.
A similar evolution with our friendship - I am surprised to see my name in the led of a sophisticated article. I wonder if Ted remembers back in college when I announced on my late-night radio show that,"Ted needs riders to share gas and driving for a morning trip to Mexico City, call him immediately at...."
