There are always two sides to every story. HAFB is one of the largest employers in the state, of course, they are going to have a disgruntle employee(s). It happens in all organizations, but I do know that the processes they have in place for employees to file grievances/Equal Opportunity complaints does work. What is not understood is that the EEO office cannot make decisions/findings, they gather the facts and compile a report in accordance with Title VII and regulations. People do not understand the process, including Mr. Coots. The process can be long drawn out and lasts for years before you get in front of an EEOC administrative judge. You need to prove discrimination, not only go in with allegations of discrimination. Complainants are alleging an unlawful discriminatory act by their supervisor/manager and the AF. They need to be able to prove their case, just like in a court of law. Managers at Hill are ALWAYS getting the blame for everything that goes wrong. They are humans too and have taken on a lot of responsibility and in most cases without the pay that should go with those responsibilities. They are NEVER going to please 100% of the employees, just like in most organizations. The problem with these kind of articles by Mr. Coots, management and the AF do not comment because of the litigation process is still on going. Therefore, people assume that no comment means that they are guilty of the allegations....so not true. The Commander's of the base do care for the people, that's why the AF has invested millions of dollars to prevent suicide and to educate employees on their grievance/EEO processes. Look at the other side of the coin before you start forming a negative opinion of the AF and it's managers. Just saying!
