As a former YSA Bishop (and yes I resigned and left the church) it was standard practice to try and keep things on the downlow. We were counseled to call Kirton and McKonkie and were instructed to let leadership handle it (Stake). In my 10 years on the High Council, multiple Bishoprics etc, not once was I or anyone in my peer group asked to contact law enforcement. In fact while a counselor a 14 year old confessed to me because she didn't like the bishop. The largest settlement ever paid was the end result. $4.2 Million in Washington state. It was later reduced, but.......this had been addressed in another ward, swept under the rug and so the family moved to the ward I was in. The perp (step father) was a fireman and the HP Group Leader. He did go to prison, but it destroyed his 2 step daughters.
