Re: “Remote Work

A survey of Utah voters in 2009 showed 70% overall support for the idea that the President of the United States should be the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states.

The National Popular Vote bill would replace state winner-take-all laws that award all of a states electoral votes to the candidate who get the most popular votes in each separate state (not mentioned in the U.S. Constitution, but later enacted by 48 states), in the enacting states, to a system guaranteeing the majority of Electoral College votes for, and the Presidency to, the candidate getting the most popular votes in the entire United States.

The bill ensures that every voter is equal, every voter will matter, in every state, in every presidential election, and the candidate with the most votes wins, as in virtually every other election in the country.

Every voter, everywhere, for every candidate, would be politically relevant and equal in every presidential election. Every vote would matter equally in the state counts and national count.

The bill would take effect when enacted by states possessing a majority of the electoral votes270 of 538.
All of the presidential electors from the enacting states will be supporters of the presidential candidate receiving the most popular votes among all 50 states (and DC)thereby guaranteeing that candidate with an Electoral College majority.

The bill would give a voice to the minority party voters for president in each state. Now their votes don't matter to their candidate.

In 2012, 56,256,178 (44%) of the 128,954,498 voters were minority party voters in their states.

And now votes, beyond the one needed to get the most votes in the state, for winning in a state, are wasted and don't matter to presidential candidates.
Utah (5 electoral votes) alone generated a margin of 385,000 "wasted" votes for Bush in 2004.
Oklahoma (7 electoral votes) alone generated a margin of 455,000 "wasted" votes for Bush in 2004 -- larger than the margin generated by the 9th and 10th largest states, namely New Jersey and North Carolina (each with 15 electoral votes).
8 small western states, with less than a third of Californias population, provided Bush with a bigger margin (1,283,076) than California provided Kerry (1,235,659).

Re: “Hitchhiking Tales

First of all, I have been hitchhiking since I was thirteen, and the worst experiences I have had hitchhiking through SLC. There is a particularly nefarious group of individuals working out of the truck stops not too far from downtown. What their business is making the lives of the homeless and travelers miserable, I still do not know, but they are cautious. This is a flying J on 27th; do not stop, do not pass go, do not collect 200$. You could lose your life. These people are serious. Recommend SLC to highly experienced and armed travelers(hitchhikers, I mean)

Re: “Rocky Times

"Inflicting" Jazz on the citizens of Salt lake City?? While it's hard to justify responding to such an ignorant statement, it does leave one wondering if all those people who attended thought that America's music was being inflicted on them. One also wonders if your local businesses objected to the extra revenue, or if the extra money Jazz Fest brought into the city was a problem? Then, of course, there was that work for the musicians themselves, not just from around the nation, but the Salt Lake City Jazz Orchestra, other local talent, and the Utah Symphony, as well as money paid to the venues like Abravanel Hall and their vendors; was that an imposition, too?

Medina is a creep. I'm an actress that he sexually assaulted. Then he tried to pay me off! If he ends up winning any sort of financial settlement- I'll be coming at him with a VENGEANCE Cosby and Weinstein style.

Re: “Thanks for Nothing

I grew up with Brock tucker as a brother and I would like to say he was always so much more than anybody let him be. Given better circumstances he could have left a great impact on the world, instead he will just leave an impact on his family as somebody that was great beyond themselves. Love you Brock from your brother johnathan.

Re: “Male Victims of Domestic Violence Participate in Support Group

I am personally a victim and have suffered for over 20 years. I could never call the police or do anything because of the mockery and disbelief from authorities and those who should help. I recently sought treatment from a female therapist who recently left her abusive husband. When I got up enough courage to tell her about the abuse I have endured, she laughed and mockingly said, "How could you be afraid of your wife or any womam. Look at your size." I politely told her that abuse is as terrifying for men as women...and that abuse is not gender specific. I told her I was raised with principles which would never allow me to hit a woman, even in self defense it would be nearly impossible. Further, for many of us abuse survivors--we have been abused and traumatized as children. When a spouse continues that abuse, we are mentally like the child being abused. We become helpless as a child during these abusive times. We expected love and support from the spouses we married. When they become abusers we are betrayed as we were from our parents. We have never received guidance or counsel on how to handle such betrayal and real horror. We have no internal defense mechanisms and having been abused from those who were supposed to give us confort and love from an early age, We internalize the abuse and believe we deserve it. Thus we are totally incqpable of defending ourselves or reporting it. When we get responses from educated therapists of mockery and disbelief, we are re-traumatized. Unfortunately there are few alternatives for men like myself. Our abusive spouses have ensured we have no friends and outlets of support. We usually have little money or access to it. Drugs, alcohol, and suicide become the only ways of escaping.

Re: “#fakenews

Your cavalier toss of the social engineered negative label "anti-vaxers" qualifies you as part of the #fakenews you so righteously condemn. Wielding labels is an effective way of simplifying complex issues to a binary perspective and then reducing science to emotional opinion. Labeling deflects honest inquiry, directly opposes journalism and enables the fake.
