Re: “First Beer Nut

Since my first brew attempt where I successfully brewed a nice 6% pale ale style beer till now I can honestly say the art of home brewing has given me better quality beers then any of the highly refined and filtered commercial beers on the market. I am now doing all grain brewing and am learning to steep my grains and dial in specific beer qualities that I like. I am no longer a beer taster for commercial beers! I now get the full experience of understanding the stages of brewing by taste and smell of the natural fermentation process first hand! . . . . Rookie Brewer!

Thanks for sharing this article about the famous Fruit Way. However, I can't think of any other strip of Hwy 89 that can beat it for it's beauty with a view of the Willard Bay and the Willard Mountain Peaks.

Ted, thanks for the tips, always looking for good inexpensive wines.
Last time I was in the wine store on Harris Ave (300 West) I noticed a rack labeled "limited time only" wines. Not sure what that is about but there were some interesting selections that were also under $20. Items I had not seen before. Check it out next visit!

It seems that these wines promise a good sparkling taste. A good choice in fact base on how you describe it. Wines today are giving an amazing taste to many especially there are variety to choose from in the market. I hope to taste it all as well. Just this Holiday season too, I bought 2 different wines I never tasted before just to try a new. It's called the Cipes Brut and Riesling which I bought from this site, online. With Cipes Brut, I love the aromas of apple, lime, pear, almonds and grapefruit it leaves in my mouth. The whole family listed it as one of our favorite in fact. Anyway, thanks for sharing all these wines, something to look forward buying soon!

Congratulations to the Jordan family on their success; and I applaud Mr. Jordan for his philanthropic endeavors. However, I do not believe that their wines are "world-class".

There are countless wineries in Sonoma (far less ostentatious) that produce superior wines.

Point of reference: a friend recently opened a 2004 Jordan Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and I found it average, at best.

Let me put to you this way, I don't care what the sommelier or manager or anyone else thinks. I AM NOT PAYING $30 for a $8 bottle of wine. I am happy to pay a corkage fee, but I am not going to pay $100 for a $30 bottle. If they don't like it, then say so and I won't go there. If they need to sell at these prices to make money, charge more for the food. If they want me to buy wine, charge $40 for a $30 bottle.

I wish you would not have admitted to frequently bringing wines to restaurants Ted. The majority of people who BYOB are embarrassingly cheap and now they're going to say "Scheffler does it!" By the way, most BYOB types also order well done steaks.

This is a great thread. Lots of good points. If you want to bring your own wine and the restaurant allows it, then accept the fee. Bring a nice bottle. No cupcakes or yellow tails.

I bring wine all the time when I go out to eat. Never had a problem.
