Re: “Clear the Filth

No matter how old you are, family history is important. While you might not think so at the time, as you get older there will be things you and your grandchildren will want to know. Most of us don't realise it until the older generations are gone and you can't replace first hand comments. Don't just put in about the good times, add in the harder times and how you overcame those trials. Another thing to remember is what caused the deaths of those you loved. There are many things that have been found to continue into future generations that knowing it runs in the family can be helped with now or possible in the future. prevention starts with knowing where to start. I wish someone had taken the time to write these things down for mew to be able to go back to. My Grandmother and my mother told us many stories of what things happened in their lives and about the people in their lives. I now wish someone had written those things down since both have passed now. But I never thought at that busy point in my life that I would one day want to remember all those things. So much family history is lost when the older generations are gone. Please pass it on to your family while you can. You can even just do it digitally so it can be accessed by family later on.Family pictures are something to cherish also. Just be sure to write down who is pictured in them, where they are taken and when. I have found family pictures that no one now even knows who is in them.

Re: “The New American

'Sticking It to the Poor'...OR...Repuglicans help those that help themselves. Which by the way brings to mind the irrational notion that "voter initiatives" actually work. The VI premise is merely suggestive and any resemblance to the will of the people is summarily transcended and reworked by Utah's 'all-knowing' and vastly superior Legislature.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. Or legislatures.

Re: “The Neighborly Way

This is the woman who wont sit on her porch. And who was misquoted by the Trib. I sit on my porch all the time, and Im not afraid; I am appalled. Appalled at the sight of sick and crippled residents of TIB left to their own devices to navigate icy streets and sidewalks trying to get to that wretched place. People who should be transported in a van with a wheelchair lift. All of you compassionate do-gooder YIMBYs out there who know and see nothing about how that place is actually run (because you live a mile away) should actually spend some time watching these poor souls. The fact that theyre better off than at the Road Home ( and grateful for that) doesnt mean they are adequately cared for. The residents who are protesting TIB have no problem with the hospice idea, which is great. It is the shoddy and amateur execution of the idea we dislike. And the fact that their propaganda machine operates overtime to garner more funding so they can increase their patient load until the number of residents overwhelms their inability to provide adequate care. Its hardly a hospice - it will become a warehouse. To call The INN Between a hospice is akin to calling The Road Home an AirBnB.

What a whiner this author is. I can't imagine being so angry about everything all the time. Hopefully Ms. Biele doesn't have access to guns.

Re: “Self-absorbed Mike Lee

Messrs. Lee and Chaffetz are the poster boys for everything ridiculous about Utah. Ignorant, myopic, racist, greedy, and of course they're members of Utah's prominent religion. I'd use the 'm word' but gosh, one probably shouldn't upset THE majority. The prominent religion owns these two political clowns and that is to Utah's disgrace.

I hate when they use that personal rights and freedoms argument. It has been used to cover such heinous crimes as child abuse.

Re: “Money for Nothing

Hello, I am Theresa Williams After being in relationship with Anderson for years, he broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to my friend and she suggested that I should rather contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that never believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I mailed the spell caster, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before three days, that my ex will return to me before three days, he cast the spell and surprisingly in the second day, it was around 4 pm. My ex called me, I was so surprised, I answered the call and all he said was that he was so sorry for everything that happened that he wanted me to return to him, that he loves me so much. I was so happy and went to him that was how we started living together happily again. Since then, I have made promise that anybody I know that have a relationship problem, I would be of help to such person by referring him or her to the only real and powerful spell caster who helped me with my own problem. email: {drogunduspellcaster@gmail.com} you can email him if you need his assistance in your relationship or any other Case

Re: “Read Carefully

Yes you may like the concept of assisted suicide/euthanasia but the administration of the non-transparent laws in OR, WA, CA and CO brightly provide immunity for predators (corporations, strangers, caregivers, heirs, guardians...) to complete the killing all before the family knows. A simple reading of the laws confirms this to be true. I am not for that. Are you?? For more investigative reports mtaas org

Re: “Koch Addiction

Nooooo why did you cite such a discredited study? That was an online, opt-in poll, believe it or not. Yes, with UCLA and Brookings' brand, as if it were put through the rigorous peer-review you might expect:
https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2017/09/25/experts-question-validity-survey-students-and-first-amendment

https://academeblog.org/2017/09/23/debunking-a-junk-science-survey-of-student-views-on-free-speech/

See statisticians pick it apart here, as cited in the Academe post above.
https://scatter.wordpress.com/2017/09/20/surveys-are-hard-work/

And the conclusion of this online poll was the premise of your entire article...

Re: “Remote Work

A survey of Utah voters in 2009 showed 70% overall support for the idea that the President of the United States should be the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states.

The National Popular Vote bill would replace state winner-take-all laws that award all of a states electoral votes to the candidate who get the most popular votes in each separate state (not mentioned in the U.S. Constitution, but later enacted by 48 states), in the enacting states, to a system guaranteeing the majority of Electoral College votes for, and the Presidency to, the candidate getting the most popular votes in the entire United States.

The bill ensures that every voter is equal, every voter will matter, in every state, in every presidential election, and the candidate with the most votes wins, as in virtually every other election in the country.

Every voter, everywhere, for every candidate, would be politically relevant and equal in every presidential election. Every vote would matter equally in the state counts and national count.

The bill would take effect when enacted by states possessing a majority of the electoral votes270 of 538.
All of the presidential electors from the enacting states will be supporters of the presidential candidate receiving the most popular votes among all 50 states (and DC)thereby guaranteeing that candidate with an Electoral College majority.

The bill would give a voice to the minority party voters for president in each state. Now their votes don't matter to their candidate.

In 2012, 56,256,178 (44%) of the 128,954,498 voters were minority party voters in their states.

And now votes, beyond the one needed to get the most votes in the state, for winning in a state, are wasted and don't matter to presidential candidates.
Utah (5 electoral votes) alone generated a margin of 385,000 "wasted" votes for Bush in 2004.
Oklahoma (7 electoral votes) alone generated a margin of 455,000 "wasted" votes for Bush in 2004 -- larger than the margin generated by the 9th and 10th largest states, namely New Jersey and North Carolina (each with 15 electoral votes).
8 small western states, with less than a third of Californias population, provided Bush with a bigger margin (1,283,076) than California provided Kerry (1,235,659).

Re: “#fakenews

Your cavalier toss of the social engineered negative label "anti-vaxers" qualifies you as part of the #fakenews you so righteously condemn. Wielding labels is an effective way of simplifying complex issues to a binary perspective and then reducing science to emotional opinion. Labeling deflects honest inquiry, directly opposes journalism and enables the fake.
