Re: “Provisions

Seriously? Did 12ERs even read the review? The writing is why I follow Ted Scheffler. His reviews are honest, fair and interesting. I also read his columns and skim the other ones. And I appreciate that he is a food critic who has a heart – he does care about the people in the restaurants – but that doesn’t mean that he won’t be objective and fair. And what’s with the Ryan Lowder comment Darius? What do you two numb-nuts do for a living? I’d say you are just the latest wanna-be-opinionated fool.
So back to what this is really about – a great restaurant and a talented columnist – we are lucky to have in this state that I love. Along with all of the diversity in restaurants and people who enjoy them.

Re: “Taco Taco, Tamales Tita

There's a Taco Taco restaurant in Ogden that has been in business for over 16 years. One would hope that a restauranteur would look into that type of thing before selecting a name.

By the way, Taco Taco at 2931 Washington Boulevard in Ogden is great hole in the wall Mexican food.

Re: “Harbor Seafood & Steak Co.

I'm beginning not to point my car towards downtown for dinner any longer. Some great neighborhood restaurants taking over the classic spaces. Great review, can't wait to go back and eat again!

Re: “Turn, Turn, Turn

This is by far my FAVORITE restaurant! I could eat their Mac and cheese all day. Please open for lunch so I can eat here more often!

Re: “Provisions

Scheffler, it's time to move on – your "reviews" are so tired, they come across as pandering to the chef scene, rather than really breaking down the meal objectively. Combine that with your bored and completely uninspired "Best Burrito" review—with too many others to cite—and i'm done with your words. I suggest taking a break from critiquing to take a photography class at the local Community College, so you can at least make your "home cooking" column look the slightest bit appetizing.

Re: “Copper Kitchen

I'm always hearing and reading about the Copper restaurants, but have yet to go because there are so few vegetarian options. I don't know if that is intentional or not, but I would love to see something other than a salad and a pasta.

Re: “Provisions

I gotta say, I'm with 12ERS on this one... Although I will say, to Teddy Ruxpin's credit, that writing a food column in SLC is like running a tour guide business in Outer Mongolia... With the caliber of cuisine we have to select from, no wonder the guy's critiques are as impotent as a Nevada boxing commissioner. When guys like Ryan Lowder are lauded for their dilution of "American" food (I'm seriously waiting for him to open a Copper Chili's or TGICopper at this point) we truly are doomed. Couple that with an audience who equate 'value' by how many meals they get out of paying for one plate and you get a food scene which will inevitably continue to dumb itself down until EVERYone will be serving "a new (not so new) twist on comfort food".

But back to the lecture at hand: Provisions is an acceptable new addition to the ever-shrinking quiver of suitable choices for a meal worth spending hard-earned dough on in this city. At first I thought the varying directions the menu goes in (Asian fusion and wood-fired pizza on the same menu?) was a bit tacky, but at least everything is well-executed. I recommend trying it out.

Re: “Provisions

You're making me hungry! Love this new joint, especially being up the street in the burbs. The beverage program rocks, GC is killing it behind the bar...

Re: “Taggart's Grill

I find the comments by the Taggart's employees flooding this section repugnant - could it be Mr. Scheffler hit the mark, and that the defensiveness by TG's workers is a sign of panic of truth being spoken?
I know one thing: I won't be eating at Taggart's Grill, that's for damned sure. Thank you, Mr. Scheffler for telling it like it is. We appreciate honest critiques of restaurants - not gushing, every-restaurant-is-terrific pap.
Hopefully TG will take Mr. Scheffler's words to heart and work on their flaws. Isn't that what a business would like to hear so as to improve overall patron satisfaction? Apparently TG only wants to hear niceties and be kept shielded from outside opinion.
Again, thanks Ted and City Weekly.
