After a 26-year run, Cydney Neil, producer of Rocky Point Haunted House, is calling it quits. Rocky Point, one of the largest and most-recognized haunted houses in the nation, has won numerous awards for its ghoulish actors, set and design. Boasting more than 50,000 visitors a season, Rocky Point will go out shivering its timbers with a production of Pirates of the Scare-ibbean. All profits go toward charity organizations, including its primary benefactor, The Boys and Girls Club. Rocky Point Haunted House is located at 3400 S. State and is open through October 31, Tuesday-Thursday, 7:30 to 10 p.m.; Friday–Saturday, 7:30 p.m. to midnight. It will also be open Monday, Oct. 30.

Would you consider Rocky Point Haunted House theater? If so, how?

I consider it interactive theater. It is simply a stage show you walk through. Mine is more like a movie, I think, very realistic.

Do you think people like being scared? Don’t we have enough to be scared about?

This is a way of forgetting about reality and the things that are truly scary. It is a safe escape.

What Hollywood movie props are built into the set?

Props from Universal Studios including The Scorpion King, Bats, House on Haunted Hill, Dead Heat, Hellraiser, and more.

What are the top three reactions you’ve observed in people after screaming?

Screaming, crying and hitting the actors! It happens many times. People are funny. I’ve also seen people passed out on the floor.

What are your plans for the future?

I don’t make plans for the future. I have learned to live in the moment and this is a pretty amazing moment right now! I don’t want to miss any of this moment by worrying about the future. I believe that it’s all taken care of anyway.
