There's more going on in Utah than can be contained in one issue of Salt Lake City Weekly. Here are more of the events you should have on your radar this week.
Just six weeks after he was in town for a performance at the Eccles Theater, writer David Sedaris returns in a more intimate setting—Weller Book Works (607 Trolley Square)—to read from and sign his new book Theft by Finding: Diaries 1977-2002, Thursday, June 22 at 7 p.m.
Fans of musical theater—whether classical or contemporary—might consider a jaunt to Logan, where the annual Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre launches on June 23 with Seussical; The Pirates of Penzance, Madama Butterfly, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Music Man are among the productions that will premiere in early July.
The funky not-suitable-for-children offerings of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim come to Park City's Deer Valley Resort for the outdoor Adult Swim on the Green Tour. Enjoy food, entertainment and games, leading up to a special screening of previously-unaired pilots and episodes. Admission is free with a $5 food voucher purchase. [UPDATED 6/22: Location moved to Ogden Amphitheater, 343 E. 25th St., Ogden, doors 6:45 p.m.]
Rep. Joel Briscoe and the Sierra Club present a special premiere screening of From the Ashes: A Requiem for Coal, director Michael Bonfiglio's Tribeca Film Festival documentary about the environmental effects of coal power. Screening is June 21 (tonight) at 7 p.m., admission $5.
For a West Side alternative to the Utah Arts Festival, consider the West Side Arts, Food & Music Festival, a showcase of local bands, food trucks and family-friendly activities at the Sugar Space Arts Warehouse, Saturday, June 24, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.; general admission is free.
