Sometimes the week is too full for all the arts and entertainment options to fit in one issue of City Weekly. Check here for our Essentials picks for the upcoming week, then consider these additional options as you plan your A&E adventures.

It's a full weekend for new theater productions in Salt Lake City. Pinnacle Acting Company presents Oscar Wilde's classic comedy The Importance of Being Earnest  June 15-July 1 at Westminster College's Jewett Center for the Arts (1700 S. 1300 East); buy advance tickets here. The Hive Theatre Company offers the Utah premiere of Samuel D. Hunter's The Whale (pictured), a character study about a housebound 600-pound man facing a turning point in his life; the production runs June 16-July 1 at Sorensen Unity Center (1383 S. 900 West), and tickets can be purchased here. For a unique same-sex take on Romeo and Juliet, Riot Act Theatre brings us Høüses at Kilby Court (748 W. Kilby Court) select evenings June 13 - July 2, with tickets available at the door.

Those who have followed the terrifying adventures of local author Dan Wells' singular creation John Wayne Cleaver—sociopath and monster-hunter—through several novels (and last year's film adaptation of I Am Not a Serial Killer) don't want to miss Cleaver's final confrontation with The Withered in Nothing Left to Lose. Wells reads from and signs the new book at a release event at The King's English Bookshop (1511 S. 1500 East) Tuesday, June 20 at 7 p.m.
