Marvel once again looks to dominate multiplexes, while a landmark concert film—marking a sad passing—highlights this week's art house offerings.

Steve Coogan's intriguing performance provides an anchor for the tangled psychological drama of secrets, sibling rivalry and white privilege in The Dinner (pictured). Director Terence Davies' knack for complex female protagonists proves a lovely match for the subtly powerful Emily Dickinson biopic A Quiet Passion. Honoring the recent death of director Jonathan Demme, his brilliant 1984 Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense comes to the Tower Theatre.

In this week's feature review, MaryAnn Johanson suggests that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 isn't nearly as edgy and transgressive as it thinks it is.
