If there is a single wine that is most identified with the Southern Hemisphere in general, and New Zealand in particular, it's Sauvignon Blanc. Crisp, dry, food-friendly Sauvignon Blanc is welcome at my table anytime, but especially in spring and summer because it pairs so well with seafood, shellfish and lighter warm weather fare - even salads.

Located in Marlborough, New Zealand, Nobilo winery produces classic NZ Sauvignon Blanc in two styles - both of which are good wine bargains.

2015 Nobilo Regional Collection Sauvignon Blanc ($14.99)  is made primarily with fruit from the Awatere Valley. It's crisp and vibrant with tropical fruit flavors and aromas of honeydew and blood orange. I enjoy it simply with oysters on the half-shell.

2015 Nobilo Icon Sauvignon Blanc ($19.99)  represents Nobilo's flagship wine, sourced from an estate established in 1943. Citrus notes on the nose combine with peach and apricot flavors on the palate to produce a lovely Sauvignon Blanc with good minerality and juicy acidity. Icon absolutely rocks grilled asparagus.
