LGBTQ rights organizations and other groups from across Utah are hosting a candlelight vigil in honor of the victims of the mass shooting in Orlando, Fla.

The vigil, hosted by Equality Utah, Utah Pride Center, the Utah AIDS Foundation, and the Human Rights Campaign, is tonight at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake City and County Building, 451 S. State St.

The shooting early Sunday morning in Orlando at Pulse, a gay nightclub, left 49 people dead and 53 wounded, making it the deadliest mass shooting in American history.

Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski, said in a written statement that “as an openly gay woman, I can’t help but view this tragedy as an attack on all people who identify as LGBTQ—a hate crime perpetrated to silence our community during the month of Pride, a time when we openly celebrate who we are and the joy of self acceptance.”
