Watchtower Cafe

We geek out over the SLC coffee shop this city deserves.
As it has been touted across the city for over a year and a half according to TIme Magazine, Utah is the geekiest state in the nation, with top scores in most every category they judge it by. (We do, however, need to catch up on more D&D games while anime movies play in the background.)

Heart of a Dog
One of the busiest movie weekends of the year is on the horizon, as a few other releases fight for air against the Star Wars monolith. In the documentary Heart of a Dog, musician/artist Laurie Anderson takes the death of her dog and spins it into a fascinating meditation on grief and mortality.

Indeed, the foundation for the continuation of this series—first with the 1999-2005 prequel trilogy, and now with Episode VII – The Force Awakens—is its omnipresence in our pop-culture consciousness as a universe that forged an emotional bond with a generation.

Velour's 2015 Winter BOTB: Steven Halliday Band, Spirit City, Drape

Part One of our interviews with the 2015 finalists.
This past weekend saw the bi-annual tradition of Velour's Battle Of The Bands, as 25 rising acts went head-to-head for audience votes throughout the week. Eventually, it came down to a local celebrity jury (including myself) and a packed crowd at the Provo venue to decide the winner of the 2015 Winter BOTB.

Monday Meal: Oaxacan-style Tlayudas

During my college days, I spent a couple summers in Ciudad Oaxaca, Mexico. One of my favorite taste memories of the time - in addition to their rich moles - was a street food called tlayudas (pronounced "lie-YOU-das").
