If you're looking for a versatile red wine to serve at a holiday dinner - or any other time, for that matter - Cecchi Chianti Classico 2012 would be an excellent choice.

Cecchi Chianti Classico is 90% Sangiovese with a variety of other blended grapes making up the balance. The wine is fermented in steel tanks before aging for a year in wooden casks, then bottled and aged another couple of months before release.

While the wine sells in most places around the country for $22 or so, it normally is $17 here in Utah and this month is on sale for a mere $14 - a Chianti steal

The Cecchi family loves using porcini mushrooms at their new Foresteria Ristorante (farm house restaurant) and brothers Andrea and Cesare Cecchi recommend pairing their Chianti Classico with two recipes in particular: fresh pasta with porcini mushrooms and artichokes, and pan-seared rib-eye steaks with porcini and rosemary rub.

The wine has a lot of verve balanced by good acidity and will make a wonderful partner to a wide array of hearty, wintertime dishes.
