While strolling through the wine store last week a catchy label on a bottle of Côtes du Rhône caught my eye: Les Dauphins Côtes du Rhône Reserve 2012. Always a sucker for an attractive label, I bought a bottle.
It wasn't until I opened the Les Dauphins Côtes du Rhône Reserve 2012 that I became aware of what a terrific bargain this GSM wine is, selling here in Utah for a mere $11.99.
This well-structured blend of classic Rhône varietals - Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre - is a deep, intense red poured into the glass. The wine quickly offers up ripe fruits on the nose, with hints of spice. On the palate, earthy cherry and black currant flavors mingle along with spicy pepper notes.
Soft tannins and well-balanced acidity make Les Dauphins Côtes du Rhône Reserve 2012 an easy-drinking, very enjoyable and economical choice for fall meals. It's perfect paired with
steak au poivre.
