The five candidates vying to become Salt Lake City mayor will face off Wednesday in a televised debate sponsored by the Pioneer Park Coalition.

The debate will pit incumbent Mayor Ralph Becker, who is eyeing a third term in office, against his four challengers, Salt Lake City Councilman Luke Garrott, former state legislator Jackie Biskupski, community activist George Chapman and businessman David Robinson.

The topic of public safety and relocation of the homeless shelter and related services in the Pioneer Park neighborhood will likely be a main topic. The Pioneer Park Coalition, a group of businesses, nonprofits and development interests, has set its sights on turning the Pioneer Park neighborhood into a corner of the city that is family-friendly 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The debate is being held at KSL 5 TV studios, 5 Triad Center (55 N. 300 West, Salt Lake City), and will be broadcast at 4 p.m. on KSL 5 TV and KSL 1160 AM and 102.7 FM.

Members of the public can request tickets by contacting Jonathan Harmon at 801-631-1625.
