The unmarked trail that is the Local Releases post I do tends to wander through a lot of hills and valleys. This week is a valley, as we only have four albums to discuss for your weekend. But they're all pretty good so kick band and listen up as you get your tan on. We'll start online with the debut EP from Miss Diandra Fog, the solo project from SLC musician Diandra Ryan who serves as the primary vocalist and plays guitar, bass, charango and banjo throughout most of this album.  Recorded in what appears to be her bedroom on Facebook, Finale 801 is an interesting acoustic EP that's very bare-bones and sounds very cathartic for Ryan. Add in some accompaniment from fellow musicians Laura Wolf, Taylor Lizardheart and Matthew Hansen at certain points and you have a really cool debut for the singer/songwriter. You can download it for a mere $5 on Bandcamp.


Next up we have the debut album from Forest Eyes, an SLC alt-rock group composed of John Allred, Aaron Child, Adam Kaiser, Jordan Adams and Chad Rexton. For longtime local music fans who are curious: Yes, it is the same John Allred of the band simply known as Allred, but unlike that project where most of the musicians rotate out for new ones, this is a straight-ahead solid lineup. Or at least as solid as a band can have without breakups or fallouts. Their self-titled album actually came out back in March to a quiet release, but now it is officially available online and through Bandcamp, which you can snag for just $7.


Earlier this week we saw the latest release from Provo-based band Bright Whistles. This group has been through some changes over the years, but it currently consists of Logan Hone (formerly of The Continentals), Luke Williams (St. Boheme), and Jesse Quebbeman-Turley ( Deseret Experimental Opera Company, Quiet House). The band have had a few EPs and albums over the years, the last one being the full-length album One/Two from June 2012. Their latest EP, White Bristles, shows the band growing from being an eclectic alternative project to being more experimental, avant-garde and indie-pop. You can download their new album for $5 off of Bandcamp.


Finally, we get to the one release show this weekend as we see the latest from Coral Bones. This is currently a two-man project headed up by Christopher Kalani Bennion with musical support from Landon Young. The band made a major splash on local music back in the fall of 2013 with the debut album Youthemism, which landed them a finalist spot in Velour's BOTB later that year. Tonight the band will release their long-awaited follow-up EP, Platonia, with a release show at Velour. Doors will open at 8 p.m. with tickets being $8, and you can see them perform with Static Waves and Haarlem opening the show.
