Last week I found myself at home alone and decided to fire up the Big Green Egg and grill myself a Prime piece of beef rib eye. So far, so good.
But, I also was looking forward to enjoying an evening all by myself with a nice wine to sip alongside that expensive steak. So, I wandered downstairs to peruse my wine stash. In there, among other red wines from Chile, I laid my hands on a bottle of Santa Rita Estate Bottled "Triple C" ($37.44) that I'd forgotten about.
"Triple C" stands for the grapes Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère, a classic Bordeaux-style blend from which the wine is made. It's a vibrant ruby-red color with a complex bouquet and intense flavors of blueberries, black currants, chocolate spice and tobacco.
It's not easy to find here in Utah, but a few restaurants offer it and you can always special-order any wine from the DABC. Santa Rita Estate Bottled Triple C was an absolute slam-dunk with my grilled rib eye. Even dining solo, it was a meal and wine to remember.
