One of my favorite wine and food events is the "Small Plates, Big Glass" series at Martine Cafe. I really like the casual, relaxed atmosphere of these shindigs and the terrific food that executive chef Tom Grant always cooks up.

The Small Plates, Big Glass evenings are also quite economical: 3 small plates for $25, plus 3 wines for an additional $25.

The next Small Plates, Big Glass event features Straight Line wines and artisan winemaker Jon Grant (no relation to chef Tom). Jon's wine-making journey included stops in the cellars of Turley, PlumpJack, Corison and Robert Mondavi, before creating Couloir and Straight Line wines.

If his name seems familiar, it might be because Jon also managed the wine store at Snowbird Ski Resort. His Couloir and Straight Line wines are named for his love of skiing and mountaineering. "Some couloirs are auspiciously positioned for a perfect ski shot - a steep and straight line."

The Straight Line Small Plates, Big Glasses event will take place at Martine on Thursday, February 26th, beginning at 6:00 PM. Straight Line Sauvignon Blanc, Tempranillo and Syrah will be poured.

In addition, Matt Licklider from Lioco Winery will be featured for Martine's Small Plates, Big Glasses event on March 26th.
