How (and when) to see Oscar nominated movies in Utah

Some of the films and performances recently announced as Academy Awards nominees have come and gone from theaters; some are still on their way. Here's a look at how to do your catching up if you want to be fully informed come Oscar time.
Awaiting Release: Several titles are on the Salt Lake Film Society schedule for February, including Best Actress nominees Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night, Feb. 6) and Julianne Moore (Still Alice, Feb. 13). Nominated in four categories (Cinematography, Costume Design, Production Design and Original Score), Mr. Turner is also slated for Feb. 6. Best Animated Feature nominee Song of the Sea arrives Feb. 13, with Best Foreign Language Film nominee Leviathan scheduled for Feb. 20. The Tower Theatre also typically screens a special program of the nominated features in all three short film categories—Animated, Live Action and Documentary—in late February; watch the schedule for updates. (All release dates are subject to change.)
Still in Local Theaters at Press Time: You can catch up with multi-nominated films like American Sniper, Birdman, Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, Inherent Vice, Interstellar, Into the Woods, Selma, The Theory of Everything, Whiplash and Wild in local theaters. Check listings at CityWeekly.net/Utah/MovieTimes.
Watch at Home: Already available on DVD or streaming services are a few of the bigger honorees, including Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Guardians of the Galaxy. Also catch up with specialty nominees including Best Foreign Language Film/Cinematography nominee Ida, and Documentary Feature nominee Finding Vivian Maier.
Not Yet Scheduled for Local Release: Best Foreign Film nominees Tangerine, Wild Tales and Timbuktu are not currently scheduled for local release.
