Movie Reviews Oct. 10: Dracula Untold, Alexander, Meet the Mormons

A full weekend of new releases includes Dracula, an adaptation of a kid-lit classic and a look at Mormons around the world.

MaryAnn Johanson was impressed with the flawed and complicated Vlad on display in the fantasy-adventure origin story Dracula Untold (pictured).

The only similarity between the book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and the pointless farce in this movie, according to Eric D. Snider, is the title.

Andrew Wright appreciates the way the fact-based drama Tracks understands how to capture the concept of solitude.

Scott Renshaw can't help a cynical response to the obvious P.R. spin of the documentary Meet the Mormons, but finds real tension in Jeremy Renner's performance as a crusading real-life reporter in Kill the Messenger. And in a feature review of The Judge, he laments the lack of focus on the strong connection between Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall as an estranged father and son.
