Local Releases: Koalas In The Inversion

We have two release shows this weekend, but May is starting to slow up a bit as we only have three albums to discuss this week. --- We'll start with the one online release you should check out, the first being a project called Deviation From A Theme. Shrouded in secrecy, a producer by the name of “Spencer” has been cranking out his brand of ethereal horror soundtrack music for well over six years. Unearthly Guests is the latest in a line of releases Spencer has come out with over the years, but sadly you can get only his most recent stuff on Bandcamp. You can snag this gem for a cool $10.
Moving on to release shows, tonight we'll see the debut release from Great Interstate. The band (seen above, photo by Kesler Ottley) is the latest project from alternative virtuoso Andrew Goldring. This time around, he went out and found himself heavy hitters of the local music scene to jam with live, including Matt Morrison, Ken Vallejos and Tate Mccallum-Law. In the short time they've been together, they've picked up quite a buzz from live shows, all while Goldring put together an album in his spare time. Inversion Songs was completely penned and recorded by Goldring, but the live show kicks just as much ass. You can catch them at their album tonight at Diabolical Records, where they'll play with Salazar and No Sun. This is a totally free show kicking off at 7 p.m.
And finally, this Monday we'll see the latest release from ambient space rockers Koala Temple. Made up of Taylor Clark, Craig Murray, Josh Brown and Andrew Sato, the band has been running just shy of two years. They hit the scene big back in summer 2012 with their full-length album Did You Like A Puppy?, followed by their EP D Space Monger D released shortly after. Since that time, they've been running around to every venue they could to build an audience while secretly working on new material. Unfortunately, the band is keeping everything about the new album under wraps; no music has been sent to anyone, and the cover art they're promoting the show with is off their 2012 EP. The band is pretty much on radio silence for the most part, probably to encourage you to go to their show to get the album. So if you want the details, you'll need to pop into The Urban Lounge on May 12 for Koala Temple's release show as they play with Stag Hare, Coyote Vision Group and Chalk. The show starts at 8 p.m. and is absolutely free to attend. You can't argue with free.
