Local Releases: The Last Of Spring

There's not a lot to talk about as we close out May and head into the summer music season, but we've got a couple of local releases you may enjoy.

Utah Regulators Wallop Ex-Con With Fine for Phony Jewel Scheme

Oregon ex-con Jack Phillips was ordered to pay a $417,750 fine by the Utah Division of Securities in what could be described as the case of “Romancing the Worthless Stones,” since Phillips was charged with luring four Utahns into investing in a scheme to ultimately worthless emeralds from Brazil.--- It was just one scheme employed by Phillips, who, according to the Utah Division of Securities, conned $330,000 from two Utah couples in 2007.

Beehive Bugle

As long as there are rods up the ass of at least half this state's population, there will always be a home for satire in Utah. --- The Beehive Bugle has been giving local residents a taste of snark, sarcasm, parody and just good ol' pissing-people-off type humor for almost a year now, taking stabs at everything the state has to offer in politics, sports, entertainment and religion.

Rally to Save the Trib Saturday

Matt Page

As the local geek culture continues to expand as it has, a lot more local artists are getting recognition for their awesome artwork that originally had to fight to find an audience. --- One such artist enjoying the boom is Matt Page, a designer and illustrator from SLC who has been making fantastic creations for a couple years now, earning him local awards in the process for his work and scoring some major gallery spots.
