Hello to all you red-carpet-cleaning, photo-snapping, teeth-whitening, line-standing, ticket-grabbing, film-fest-season enthusiasts! --- Yes, hard to believe, but in a matter of days, Park City turns back into a 10-day circus. Thousands will flock to the hills to add more signatures to their book with Ryan Reynolds and two of the four members of Imagine Dragons. As has been the case in previous years, I'll be skipping those gems and concentrate more on what's happening normally in town. In lieu of a 337 Wall update, here's some random artwork from downtown SLC:

Going to events, on Monday, Velour will play host to the debut of Joshua James' latest music video for the song “Esperamza,” followed by an acoustic set from James and, we can only guess, surprise guests. You know this is going to be a sellout, especially at $5, so head over and get in line early.

On Thursday, The Leo will be the home to a brand new book club called Leo Lit: Exploring Feminism Through Books, Tea & Talk. Started by Amanda Hurtardo, former founder and curator of the Stolen & Escaped gallery that used to sit underneath Frosty Darling, the club is looking to meet once a month on Thursdays starting with this week, beginning with Feminism Is For Everybody: Passionate Politics. It's just $10 to join the club. If this is the kind of literature you've been looking for, you should check it out.

On Friday up at The Canyon Inn (which isn't an inn at all; it baffles me why they've kept the name), Wasatch Renaissance and Hip Hop Roots SLC present: Hip Hop For Health, benefiting Lupus.org. It's a large night of local DJs and emcees taking over the mics with live demos of graffiti and dancing, an open mic, prize giveaways and more. It's just $5 or a canned food donation, all going to a worthy cause.

Next Saturday is the official Yogis Give Back 2014 event over at the Rose Wagner. The event is $20 with all proceeds going toward providing free yoga to the community in an effort to get more people out and about. To try to sum up what you'd be experiencing at the event in a single paragraph wouldn't do the event justice, so check out the Facebook page for a full list of details and what you can expect to take part in.

If yoga isn't quite your thing, the Wasatch Roller Derby's season officially kicks off next Saturday. It's the first league to begin the season, in fact, as the others have yet to even post schedules for competition. And what a match they have lined up to kick it off: the Hot Wheelers will take on the Black Diamond Divas. Tickets are $15 at the door, or cheaper if you head online now.

The following week, things aren't so clear. We do know that in Ogden on Jan. 21 will be the Ogden Poetry Slam. It's the first official slam to take place in Ogden in a few years, headed up by independent individuals as opposed to a slam group. The event will take place at 7:30 at Grounds For Coffee on 25th Street. So far, only a few people have signed up. Hit up the Facebook link to take part.

And then in two weeks will be the return of the SLC White Party. Aside from getting dressed entirely in white and grooving to names like DJ Nick James, DJ Eben Flow and DJ 8-BiT, you're going to see an array of physical performances that will make you want to jump in. All of it is happening at The Grand Hall in The Gateway. Snag tickets while you can, this event sells out quickly!

As for the blog... A lot of things have been tossed up in the air the last week or so, so what I had initially planned is changing very quickly. In other words, the next two weeks will be a surprise, even for myself. As always, we'll see what happens.
