Glad You Asked: Weekend To-Dos

Dear GYA, Inspirational preacher and advice dispenser Joel Osteen recently posted on his Twitter account, "A true friend walks in when everyone else walks out. A true friend doesn't rub it in when you make a mistake. They rub it out." Whoa, this is great news because I'm always creeping into rooms and rubbing one out. Anything else happening this weekend that Joel Osteen would approve of? - Kirk Petolarp, South Salt Lake---

Kirk, I'm glad that you're a supportive friend. Here are some things happening this weekend that you and Joel would be into, starting with Friday's events: 

Broadway singer Brian Stokes Mitchell will be onstage at Abravanel Hall alongside the Utah Symphony. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $18.

For all things dubstep, checkout Dubwise at Urban Lounge this evening. The music starts at 8. Tickets are $10 at the door. 

Electronic producer and DJ Mat Zo will be at The Depot. The show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15.

Prog-metal band Periphery will be performing at In The Venue tonight. Born Of Osiris, Dead Letter Circus and Twelve Foot Ninja are also on the bill. The show starts at 5. Tickets are $20.

Kilby Court will be hosting Solarsuit tonight. The Blue Aces and Blue Wavers are also on the bill. The show starts at 7. Tickets are $6.  

Power trio The Quick and Easy Boys will be at The State Room tonight. The Moondoggie and Rose Windows are also on the bill. Doors open at 8. Tickets are $15.  


Saturday's events:  

Top Dawg Entertainment rapper Ab-Soul will be at The Complex tonight. Joey Bada$$, Chevy Woods, Statik Selektah and The Underachievers are also on the bill. The show starts at 7. Tickets are $25. 

The Utah Jazz are back at home, hosting the Houston Rockets. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $10.  

The Ska & Reggae Bash will be going down at Bar Deluxe, with The Sarah B Band, 2 & 1/2 White Guys, Bludgeon Muffin, Sturgeon General and Dubwise Selecta. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10.   

Electro-pop band Twenty One Pilots will be at In The Venue. Electronic producer Robert Delong is also on the bill. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $22. 

Homegrown band the Devil Whale will be at Urban Lounge this evening. The Desert Noises and The North Valley will open up. The show starts at  8. Tickets are $7. 

The ski film McConkey will be shown at the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird Resort tonight. tickets are $15. The show starts at 8. 


Sunday's events:  

Two-time City Weekly DJ of the year, DJ Flash and Flare will be on the roof of the Green Pig today, starting at 3 p.m. Admission is free.  

Metal band Kill Devil Hill will be at In The Venue. Eyes Set To Kill, Girl On Fire, and Black Water Rising will open things up. The show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $18. 

Ambient/down-tempo producer Tycho will be performing at Urban Lounge. Beacon is also on the bill. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $17. 

DJ Street Jesus will be hosting Funk and Soul Night at Bourbon House. The music starts at 9. Admission is free.  

It's Pachanga Night at Club Karamba! Admission is free. The party starts at 9.   

Piper Down will be the site for Geeks Who Drink Trivia tonight. The quizzin' starts at 7:30. No cover.
