North Salt Lakers are hoping to remind folks in Salt Lake City that they, too, are downwind of the Stericycle Medical Waste Incinerator, which on Sept. 7 belched up an emergency-bypass emission of pollutants into the neighborhood. Saturday, you can attend a town hall meeting and later, a protest of the plant joined by the legendary eco-advocate Erin Brockovich.---
Stericycle burns medical waste shipped in from other states that could include everything from bloody bandages to fetuses. Residents are now up in arms about the plant's North Salt Lake Location and the emissions it releases to nearby schools and homes. Pressure is building on the plant to relocate, and Communities for Clean Air, along with activist Brockovich and environmental-scientist Robert Bowcock, are organizing a town hall meeting Saturday for those who want to learn more. After the meeting, those who have felt like they've had more than enough lungfuls of incinerated medical waste can also attend a protest outside the Stericyle Plant.
Check out the meeting at Foxboro Elementary, 587 N. Foxboro Drive, North Salt Lake, Saturday, Sept. 28, 2 p.m.
