What’s new on the box(es) tonight:

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (ABC) Series Debut: I haven’t seen it, either—but if there’s anyone we should all trust with a TV series (Dollhouse notwithstanding), it’s Joss Whedon. ---If you’d like to pretend this is The Avengers and experience the premiere on a movie screen, Geek Show Podcast is presenting Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for free at Brewvies (677 S. 200 West, 21+) at 7 p.m., right before True TV’s weekly screening of Sons of Anarchy at 8 p.m. Let’s hope for a smooth geeks/bikers transition.

The Goldbergs (ABC) Series Debut: This looks like a family sitcom from the ’80s frozen in time because it’s set in the ’80s—see how ABC got around that? This postcard from the Reagan era stars Jeff Garlin, Wendi McLendon-Covey, George Segal and other people who should know better—Patton Oswalt provides the Wonder Years narration, no less. Sure, Garlin fires off plenty of priceless one-liners (“I talked to the guy at Sam Goody, he said it was a hip track!”) and there’s no canned laughter, but The Goldbergs is deader than disco (then, not now).

Trophy Wife (ABC) Series Debut: A great cast (including Malin Akerman, Bradley Whitford, Marcia Gay Hardin and Natalie Morales) and smart, funny writing … will get you nowhere on ABC, especially with a stoopid title and stuck in the middle of a full night(!) of new shows. Watch Trophy Wife as hard as you can.

Lucky 7 (ABC) Series Debut: Seven gas-station employees become overnight millionaires when their lottery pool finally hits the right numbers; Lucky 7 juggles the stories of each winner—and one loser who, like a chump, squirreled away his dollars instead of buying tickets. Unfortunately, none of said stories are even slightly engaging, and all the soft-rock montages and touchy-feely monologues in the world aren’t going to change that.

Also new tonight:

Sons of Anarchy (FX)

Dads, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, The Mindy Project (Fox)

NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, Person of Interest (CBS)

The Voice, Chicago Fire (NBC)

Whose Line Is It Anyway? (The CW)

Catfish, Nikki & Sara Live (MTV)

Tosh.0, Brickleberry (Comedy Central)

Ink Master, Tattoo Nightmares (Spike)

Face Off, Fangasm (Syfy)

Knife Fight, Brew Dogs (Esquire)

Web Therapy (Showtime)
