Medicaid, UTA and Budget Cuts On Agenda for People's Summit

If you want to vent on how Utah's Governor Gary Herbert has postponed any decision on Utah embracing—or not—Medicaid Expansion, then head over to the People's Summit on Saturday, Aug. 24.---
Herbert's decision to not make a decision until 2014 on expanding Medicaid to single, childless adults will be one of three topics addressed by poverty and faith groups at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral at 231 E. 100 South.
Rep. Rebecca Chavez Houck, D-Salt Lake City, will open the summit at 9 a.m., followed by Rep. Joel Briscoe, D-Salt Lake City, and folks from Breathe Utah, Crossroads Urban Center and the Utah Transit Authority having a confab from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on UTA, Clean Air and Affordable Fares.
Crossroads, the Housing Authority of Salt Lake County and Utahns Against Hunger will debate the impact of federal budget cuts between 10:40 and 11:30 a.m., with the Medicaid Expansion strategy session—"how grassroots groups can respond to Governor Herbert's decision to not make a decision," says the press release—will run from 11:30 a.m. to noon, followed by a bite to eat.
Hopefully, the frustrations over Medicaid Expansion as it slowly slips away from Utah's grasp will not give the attendees indigestion.
